Have you ever heard of a woman named Harriet Quimby? Harriet the Brave is her story.  In 1912 Harriet was the first woman to fly across the English Channel. Many doubted her and few supported her. This is a great story for all ages.  It is a great tool for adding more breath and depth to American history. and specifically the history of women in aviation. The story could be used to discuss women's role in history as well as the role of wealth in history. If your students or children seem to be intrigued by Amelia Earheart, this story will also engage their imagination.
