She Persisted is a non-fiction book that tells the stories of different powerful women
throughout history. It features 13 women of different races, first languages, ages, and
occupations.

The book tells the struggles and obstacles the girls and women were facing and how
they persisted despite everything against them.
The book features a diversity of figures including judges, astronauts, civil rights activists,
and more. Women and girls of color are well-represented and honored in the book.

I think this book is an important read so that girls can see they can accomplish anything.
Society bombards even young girls with images and messages that they are not good enough
or cannot do the things they want to do.
It shows the reader that women throughout history have had to fight battles for the
greater good, but with persistence and determination, they were able to accomplish their
goals.

I think this book would be good for any age elementary schooler and could work as the
opening activity for a research activity on important biographical figures for middle schoolers.
All genders should read it - not just girls.
